Let’s talk about KALE baby!

Happy Wednesday, Honeys!

Um, yeah, it’s been a minute. Excuses are so annoying so let’s just skip that part of this post! In my absence, I have been working a ton on behind-the-scenes Local Honey moves and even more on my personal health. My mental and physical health are my top priorities right now which brings you this post!

I would like to start off by sharing a few of the daily healthy habits that have started to become a staple part of my routine. These little regimens add up so much in making me feel good and strong all day long.

  1. A tiny 5-10 minute workout every morning. I wish I enjoyed working out more, but in all my attempts I just have never found joy and relief in exercise like I do in nutrition. In the last six months or so I have begun a habit of doing 15-25 pushups every morning, along with 2 minutes of planks dispersed, and some other simple ab/leg/or cardio exercise with about 20-30 reps. I know this is hardly even a warmup to many people- but this is the simplest, least time consuming, and cheapest way for me to do at least a bit of strengthening. The simplicity of it makes it hard to find an excuse not to do it and you’d be surprised the difference it has made in my body over time!
  2. Wake up earlier and leave yourself more time in the morning. This is beneficial to your life in so many ways. This tip allows me to do my little workout and it also forces me to have coffee/breakfast at home. That alone saves me SO MUCH money and so many calories!!! My Dunkin/Starbucks habits were completely out of hand and starting these better morning habits has made all the difference. Another surprising perk is that the extra time allows me to drink way more water. I’m so thirsty in the morning and when I’m rushing around I just don’t make drinking water a priority like I should.

Now onto my favorite part of this post- my favorite kale recipes as of recently!

Kale has so many benefits. A serving (2 1/2 cups!!) only contains 45 calories. A serving also contains so many benefits such as potassium, fiber, protein, iron and 260% of your daily Vitamin A, 170% Vitamin C, and 870% Vitamin K! That’s why they call it a superfood.

  1. Kale Energy Smoothie
    1. You need: 1 frozen banana, 1 cup frozen kale, 1 tbsp. all natural peanut butter, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and 1 cup of cold brew coffee. 1/4 cup of nut/oat milk or protein powder are optional.
    2. Blend ingredients together.

Processed with VSCO with al3 preset

  1. Kale & ‘Sausage’ Breakfast Scramble
    1. You need: 1 or 2 eggs depending on preference, 1/2 cup of kale, 1/2 cup of veggies of your choice (peppers/onions/corn/mushrooms), garlic, 2 baby potatoes, 1 sausage  (mine are vegan apple sausage) link, and a handful of dairy free cheese
    2. Sautee veggies & garlic on a pan with chopped up sausage link, add egg(s) once  veggies are halfway cooked through, add kale once the egg is halfway done & the veggies are almost fully cooked, once the kale has slightly wilted- top with cheese and some hot sauce and enjoy!
  2. Veggie Tacos
    1. You need: 1/2 bell pepper, 1/4 red onion, 1/2 cup of corn or black beans, tofu, taco seasoning, kale, avocado, salsa, cheese (dairy free for me).
    2. Sautee veggies while you bake the tofu at 425 for about 12 minutes. Season both with taco seasoning before you start cooking. Once tofu is baked, crumble it into tiny pieces so that it almost resembles a ground beef texture. Add tofu to the veggies and let it all simmer for 3-4 minutes. Either eat as a salad on a bed of kale and top with all the toppings of your choice or enjoy inside a warm tortilla with kale, avocado, cheese, and salsa!

I hope you enjoyed this health-focused post and that you’re all having a very healthy and happy 2019 so far! Expect a new fashion post verrrrry soon, honeys <3

Denver, CO: What I Wore, Saw, and Bought

Happy Tuesday, Honeys!

I’m super excited about this post because I just got back from an amazing little vacation to Denver, Colorado. It was my second time going there and I just absolutely love the laid back atmosphere and beautiful scenery. The first trip I took was mostly dedicated to exploring the mountains and taking in a whole new view with my best friends, while this time was spent with family and dedicated to checking out the city. I am such a sucker for big cities, a weekend getaway full of local grub and vintage shopping is basically my dream. In this post I’ll give you an in-depth look on what I wore, what I did, and of course, what I bought while in Denver.

WHAT I WORE

I stuck with a general theme of effortlessly put together, featuring hues of light denim, pink, and neutrals. I had a lot of fun playing with color and texture and overall I was pleased with my ‘fits.

FIT #1

In this comfy outfit I knew I wanted to highlight the pink, popcorn textured cardigan that I recently picked up from Target…Yes, TARGET. I love it so much, the color is just perfect and you all know how I feel about cardigans. I kept that the focal point by pairing it with a white crop top and some light wash mom jeans, both Brandy Melville.

FIT #2

I really wish I had gotten a whole outfit pic, but this is what I wore to a concert on Friday night. It was freezing up in Red Rocks Amphitheater so I decided to wear my roommate’s thrifted black turtleneck under a super soft teddy coat and I dressed it up with this dope Forever 21 stacked necklace. I wore some mom jeans on bottom and black booties to keep warm.

FIT #3

This has to be my fav fit. Neon is a huge trend this fall so I decided to experiment with that by rocking a hot pink sweater from H&M under this perfect fall blazer I picked up from work (Dress Barn). The sweater was originally quite a bit longer but I cut it into this cropped length to make me look taller and just fit my style more. I also wore this outfit with some distressed boyfriend jeans and black booties.

FIT #4

This was my comfy airport outfit. I would’ve loved to be wearing leggings, but I needed more space in my bag and had to wear my bulkiest jeans…Lol so I paired them with this thrifted Harley Davidson tee and the same fuzzy jacket as before. Air Force Ones and gold jewelry make the outfit look a lot more together than the effort it required.

WHAT I DID

The reason I actually made a trip to Denver in the first place was for a Blackbear concert in Red Rocks Ampitheatre. After spending Friday having nice coffee chats with my dad, exploring downtown Denver, and of course, hitting the local dispensary, I enjoyed the beautiful concert by myself. It was such a lively show and an experience I have dreamed of for so long. I did go alone but I danced my heart out and ended up meeting some really cool local gals. The next day was mostly dedicated to vintage shopping and more city exploring while just unwinding from the chaos of everyday. It was much needed and much appreciated I must say. If you’re in Denver you just have to experience the amazing local coffee shops and Mexican restaurants. They are definitely worth the hype.

WHAT I BOUGHT

The first store I bought something at was the Forever 21 in downtown Denver where I picked up that taupe sweater dress (bottom left) along with the gold stacked necklace (top right) and the gold coin necklace that I paired with the dress.

The other store I shopped at was Buffalo Exchange where I picked up that sweet Jimi Hendrix shirt, the snakeskin loafers, perfect pink sunglasses, and the plaid trousers. Overall I think each piece is super unique and something I’ve been searching for for a while now.

And that’s a wrap, honey! I really hope you all enjoyed getting a closer look at my recent weekend get away. I would totally recommend Denver for an escape from the chaos of our everyday lives. ‘Til next time! <3

Youtube, Cozy Szn, MY BIG EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Happy Friday, Honeys!

Man does it feel good to finally type that again. I am so so sorry for my lapse in posts this past month. I’ve decided to stop my Monday posting schedule and just start making blog posts when I feel inspired to share something with you all. I decided to make this change because I never want to be in a position where I feel obligated to post something just because I feel like I need to. This is meant to be a platform where I can share my lifestyle authentically and passionately, and I feel that I can do that better with a bit more freedom. I’ve never been great at following guidelines after all… 😉

In light of that, I haven’t been TOTALLY absent! In fact, I posted an entire new collection, cozy szn, to the shop tab of this site and you all seem to be loving it! I even had to restock one of the sweaters by popular demand. I’m really proud of this collection and the direction my shop is headed and I hope you guys feel the same way. Oh and don’t worry, there’s already new arrivals on their way. <3

Not only have I been focusing more on inventory, but I’ve also been creating Youtube videos! I have two on my channel currently and one ready to post. I’ve had a video ready for quite some time but due to technical difficulties, I have not been able to share it. 🙁 I am working on getting that resolved so that hopefully you can all enjoy it soon. It features my ex boyfriend and I promise, it’s really entertaining.

On top of all that, ya girl is hosting her very first event at the end of this month! I will be throwing an event in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month that includes my first pop-up shop, a clothing swap, a DVA presentation, and a raffle. I will bring my inventory to the event so that guests can shop in person and 20% of the money I make will be donated to a local women’s shelter. The clothing swap will consist of guests bringing in 10-15 gently used clothing pieces and then swapping them with other girls’ items. The clothes that are left at the end will also be donated to the shelter. Lastly, I will be sharing a presentation alongside one of my good friends that is themed around DVA and women empowerment. There will also be a raffle going throughout the night where guests can make donations in order to be entered to win a Local Honey & Nature of the Soul Co sponsored gift basket. I am extremely passionate about lowering the number of people who are affected by domestic violence and I feel very blessed to have an outlet like Local Honey where I can make a difference.

The Story of 21

Happy Monday, Honeys!

I’m bringing you this post as a LEGAL CONSUMER OF ALCOHOL because my 21st birthday was yesterday! Today I’d like to share with you some things I’ve learned, accomplished, and cherished by 21 as well as bring you along my birthday trip to Miami! I hope you enjoy getting to know me a little better and if you like posts where I show you more of my life, please let me know!

I am going to begin by telling you 3 things I’ve learned, achieved, and cherished by now.

Things I’ve learned before 21:

  • Stop making excuses. No matter what you want to do or what you failed to do, excuses are invalid. If you truly want something or need to accomplish something, nothing should stop you. Drop the bullshit and work harder, you WILL get anything you want.
  • Tolerance is the key to maturity. This is something that has been hard for me to learn. I have always been very tolerant of differences among people, but I haven’t always been tolerant when it comes to the little things. If you continue to let that one annoying coworker bother you or you keep getting angry at your late friend for never being punctual, you are never going to be happy. You’re also wasting a lot of energy on being upset about things that hardly affect your own well being. Learn to accept people for who they are and treat them all with kindness anyways.
  • Embrace the qualities that make you, you and use them to your advantage. Take time to really get to know yourself and create yourself so that you can live life with ease and truly maximize your potential.

Things I’ve achieved before 21:

  • I moved 1700 miles away from my family just before my 18th birthday and never looked back. It was the greatest decision I’ve ever made and I can’t wait to see where the next few years take me.
  • I GRADUATED FROM MF COLLEGE, IN 3 YEARS. My proudest achievement by far. Moving on.
  • I started a business! Local Honey is still trying to find its roots but I believe in my brand so much and I truly cannot wait to see what the future has in store. (hehe, store ;))

Things I cherish most at 21 (My family and friends will always be #1, these are the less obvious):

  • A good relationship with myself. At the end of the day, you’re the only person you’ve got. I’m happy to say that there’s no one else I’d rather be and I am very proud of the person I am.
  • Good physical health. Being so young, I hadn’t really faced medical problems or thought about that stuff before. This past year, I had to deal with some issues that were affecting my physical health and it made me realize how grateful I am to be generally healthy. No matter how good life can be, it’s hard to enjoy anything at all when you don’t feel well.
  • Sunlight. This sounds so simple and kind of cliche, but it blows my mind how much the sun can impact my mood. When the skies are blue and the sun is out, I feel so happy, empowered, and motivated. Mother nature really came through with Miss Sun!!!

NOW, THE STORY OF MY 21ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Our beautiful Airbnb

Good food, drinks, and relaxation

Lot’s of fun with friends!

And of course, lot’s of shopping…

That’s a wrap, honey! Thank you so much top everyone who made my 21st birthday so special. There is so much to be grateful for. Until next week <3

What I Eat in a Week: Healthy & Delicious Recipes

Happy Monday, Honeys!

As you can tell from the title, this post is all about what I’ve been eating lately, what recipes I’ve recently discovered, etc.

I would like to begin by just talking about how much I love nutrition. (If you aren’t interested in my health “journey” and just want recipes, skip this paragraph!) If you know me pretty well, then you know how obsessed I am with healthy eating and nourishing your body properly. Recently, I have taken my health very seriously and I’ve been eating nutritious, whole foods that fuel my body and make me feel good all day. As a part of that journey, I discovered that I am gluten intolerant. I had been getting terrible stomach aches and such for the past few months, so bad to the point where I made multiple doctor’s appointments trying to figure out what was wrong. When nothing was testing unhealthy in my body, I decided to try cutting out gluten just to see what would happen. I had tried cutting out dairy before and honestly didn’t see a lot of positive effects but the last thing I ever wanted to do was cut out gluten. I LOVE bread, sandwiches, pastries, breaded foods, alllll that. Low and behold, I cut gluten out for a few days just to test it and boom, I felt a world of a difference. I was no longer having chronic stomach pain on the daily, I was far less fatigued throughout my days, and overall I just felt lighter. Since then, I haven’t eaten gluten hardly at all and I feel so good. I miss it literally all the time but it is nowhere near worth the physical problems it brings.

That being said, all of the recipes/foods I talk about in this post are gluten free and pescatarian friendly! 🙂

1. Superfood Kale Salad

Toss the following ingredients in a bowl and let it chill in the fridge for 15-20 minutes before serving. Kale (massage with your hands and a half teaspoon of olive oil), quinoa, chopped cherry tomatoes, dried cranberries, pecans, feta cheese, season with salt & pepper and dress with a lemon herb vinaigrette. SOOO yummy

2. Meal Prep Mexi-Bowl

This recipe is something I came up with out of nowhere and it turned out so well! It’s super cheap and easy which makes it the perfect meal to prep for work all week. All you need is:

-either brown rice or quinoa (I did 2 meals of each when I prepped this)

-chunky salsa (mango salsa is my preferred)

-black beans

-Mexican seasoned tofu (buy a pack of low sodium taco seasoning if you’re a beginner)

That’s literally it! Combine those ingredients together, making sure everything is well seasoned and voila, you have a satisfying, delicious, and healthy meal ready for the busy week ahead of you.

3. Veggie Egg Scramble

This meal is high in protein and packed in nutrients, plus it’s super easy to make. All I do is sautée my favorite vegetables in a pan with just cooking spray and a little bit of water. Lately I’ve been using mushrooms, broccolini, and kale. Once the veggies are about two-thirds of the way done, I add one or two eggs depending on how hungry I am. I scramble all these ingredients together in a pan and top with a tiny bit of fat free cheddar cheese and Siracha. Keep in mind that this meal is not limited to breakfast just because it has eggs in it! I enjoy this nutrias and delicious meal at all times of the day 🙂

4. Spinach and Tuna Salad

This meal is the cheapest of them all and it is my go-to when I’m in a pinch. All you need is a few handfuls of spinach or spring mix, low sodium tuna that has been preserved in water rather than oil mixed will with salt, pepper, a tiny bit of dijon mustard & lemon juice, and then some walnuts and dried cranberries to top it off. I dress this with the same lemon herb vinaigrette I use for my superfood kale salad and it is soooo good.

5. My Favorite Healthy Snacks

I’m a big nighttime snacker, which is usually my biggest dieting flaw. To improve the situation at least a little bit, I try to choose healthier and less processed snacks. My first go-to is always fruit. I especially love strawberries, cherries, and watermelon. If I’m craving something more indulgent, I will cut up strawberries and top them with a little bit of Halo Top ice cream and some almond milk whipped cream. SO FIRE. Sweet potato fries are something I was against for so long and I have no idea how because I am addicted to them! One of my favorite snack/sides for sure. I recently bought these Gluten Free Bites which have pretty clean ingredients and are safe for almost any allergy or food restriction. They are really tasty and satisfy my sweet tooth.

MY NEW ROOM TOUR: CHIC & COZY

Happy Monday, Honeys!

I apologize for not posting last week, I have been insanely busy working and moving apartments. Luckily, I am finally settled into my new place and I’m going to show you all the progress I’ve made on it in today’s post! In this room tour I will be walking you through each section of my new bedroom through photos and descriptions. I put a lot of attention and detail into my room because I am very influenced by the appearance of my surroundings. I would describe the decor as chic, feminine, and cozy with a little edge. My color scheme is pretty much exclusively pale pink, gold, and white with accents of green through my plants. My furniture and accents are, of course, very affordable while still looking modern and chic.

When you first enter my room, there is this garment rack to the right with some of my favorite pieces at the time. They usually happen to match my room as well. Under the rack is this adorable faux fur rug from target that I got for only $20 and hung above it is a mirror that I got from TJ Maxx a few years ago.

Next to the garment rack I have a white framed full length mirror and an XOXO wall hanging that is black, white, and gold. To the left of those if my night stand which holds a plant and a basic white lamp along with a gold candle. This table was only $40 from Walmart!

Next to my end table is my bed which has a modern metal headboard. My comforter is pale pink with a ruched texture and I have gold accent pillows on it as well. I absolutely love this comforter and I think the little twinkle lights on my headboard add a cute and cozy touch.

This area doesn’t photograph that well because it’s so back lit 🙁 & I really should’ve fixed that pillow but you get the point <3

On the wall behind my bed I hung twinkle lights around the border and I have two fake plants hanging in some wooden “floating shelves” on both sides. These are a great touch and were crafted from items I found in the really cheap front section of Target. Yes, honey!!

To the left of my bed I have a tapestry of a girl smoking with a man’s face being formed in the smoke above her. I don’t know why I find this image so fascinating but it’s a conversation starter and it adds the edgy touch my room needed.

Processed with VSCO with au1 preset

Next to the tapestry I have a little gold table which holds a stack of movies and a bouquet of fake flowers in an old champagne bottle. Under the table I have the same faux fur rug as before. I think this little setup looks very elegant even though it costed less than $75 in total. To the left of the table I hung a large Palo Alto movie poster. This is one of my favorite films of all time and if you know me personally, you know the impact it has had on me for many years now.

The last item along that wall is my dresser. This thing took 2 days and 4 people to build. I have hard feelings toward it for sure BUT she cute after all. I have the top decorated with a corny little decor sign, some more fake flowers, cute little books, and a candle. On the window sill behind my dresser I have another plant, a gold painted “J”, a portable speaker and a mug that my best friend in Minnesota made me. <3

On the wall across from my bed I have a bathroom and a walk in closet. In the space between, I keep my little storage drawers of some Local Honey inventory. To go along with that, I have my college diploma on top and my official business registration for Local Honey. I also add some spice with my pale pink Polaroid camera and a few pairs of sunglasses on display.

That’s a wrap honey! I hope my room tour inspired or at least entertained you. I truly believe that having a space that makes you feel comfortable and motivated is a huge step towards living a happier and more productive life.

5 Easy Ways to Live a More Productive Life

Happy Monday, Honeys!

I am back for another post! This one is all about my methods to living the most productive and fulfilling life. I currently have two jobs working 50-60 hours/week and Local Honey to worry about. It’s safe to say I know how it feels to try and stay sane when life feels like it’s moving too fast to keep up. In this post I will share with you 5 tips that help me say organized, motivated, and productive while balancing the normal responsibilities of life.

1. Set Goals and Reflect on Your Progress Often

This tip touches back to my post about the law of attraction and manifestation. If you aren’t constantly setting new goals and working towards them, your life will become stagnant and repetitive. In order to get excited to work everyday, I need something in sight that will bring me reward once I’ve achieved it. These goals can be as minor as leaving 5 minutes earlier everyday so that you aren’t rushing in the mornings or as major as starting a brand new venture. Either way, reflecting on the process can give you a sense of purpose which will lead to more productivity and confidence in other aspects of your life.

2. Have a Solid Morning/Night Routine

Personally, I depend on my long mornings to stay sane. I wake up 2 hours before I have to do anything basically everyday. This way, I don’t feel rushed or stressed before going into work. I can use those 2 hours exactly how I feel necessary for whatever is on the agenda that day. Sometimes I’ll lay in bed and watch YouTube for 30 minutes but if that helps calm my mind and set the tone for the day, I’m happy. I can also get ready at my own pace and of course, have ample time to fuel up on coffee. I realize mornings aren’t for everyone though. If you’re more of a night person, the same concept works. It is a good idea to wind down for a few hours before going to sleep at night where you can just light a candle, treat yourself to whatever makes you happy whether that’s a snack, a netflix show, a glass of wine, etc. and just reflect on the day. Take the time to prepare yourself for whatever the following day brings. Having a clear mind will help your life run more smoothly and will make the boring adult stuff seem less dreadful. Lol.

3. WRITE LISTS

Seriously, if you’re not someone who normally writes to-do lists, this tip could change your life. I’m not big on using planners so I’ll just write lists on my phone or whatever is available when I’m out and toss it in my purse. Regardless of how you like to do it, writing lists is one of the best ways to never miss anything and accomplish the maximum amount. It helps you lay out exactly what needs to get done so that it’s not floating around your brain causing unnecessary anxiety. Plus, I think we can all agree that there’s nothing more satisfying than crossing things off a list like “Yes, bitch, I did that!”

4. Meal Prep

For those of you that work crazy hours like me, this tip saved my life. I was always stressing in the mornings trying to figure out what I was going to bring to work for food that day and half the time I wouldn’t bring anything so I would be stuck spending a bunch of money on unhealthy meals. Now I take less than an hour to make 4-5 prepped meals that I take to work with my everyday and feel satisfied eating. Usually I make a Morning Star Veggie Patty, baked broccoli, and some mini potatoes or brown rice with berries on the side. It takes less than 2 minutes to heat up, it’s a healthy, balanced meal, and I feel full and satisfied every time. Trust me, this is a game changer,

5. Take Time to Treat Yo Self!!!

While working hard and being productive are very important, enjoying yourself should be a priority too! If you aren’t doing things just for you and to make yourself happy, you’ll eventually burn out and lose so much motivation to do the things you used to love. Getting food with friends, going to the beach, shopping, or even going out on the weekends don’t make you lazy or careless, they just add some spice to your life and make the hard work worth it.

I hope these tips help you maximize your productivity and live the most fulfilling life! Go out there and chase your dreams honey, and don’t forget to have fun while ya do it. 😉

How to Manifest Your Dreams into a Reality: Law of Attraction 101

Happy Monday, Honeys!

I would like to begin by saying thank you SO SO much for the support and success that came along with the launch of my first collection. I watched my dreams unfold before my eyes and it still feels unreal. Even if you didn’t purchase anything, just to hear that you enjoyed the clothes or that you thought the site looked professional means the world to me.

That brings me to the topic of today’s post. I have decided to chat with you all about the Law of Attraction and how to manifest your goals into becoming a reality. I know this kind of thing isn’t for everyone and I totally respect that, but I can confidently say that it is a huge factor that’s gotten me to where I am today.

If you are unfamiliar with the Law of Attraction, it basically states that whatever you choose to put into the universe, either positive or negative, is a direct reflection of what will come back to you. For instance, think about those people in your life that seem unusually unlucky. Something is always wrong with them or their family, unfortunate things just keep occurring in their life for no clear reason, etc. Now think about what that person acts like on a day to day basis. Are they generally negative and pessimistic? Do they exert a sense of chaos and disorderly mayhem? It may even seem well-intentioned, but regardless, if that is what you put into the universe, you are bound to receive that same energy back. In another perspective, I am sure you know many people who are very positive and see things as the glass half full, people who worry little about their problems because they know it will be resolved somehow and they have many blessings to be thankful for still. These people tend to have less curveballs thrown their way and a happier, more simple life in general. Of course there are going to be uncontrollable and unexplainable factors, but generally life is pretty fair. The law of attraction is all about giving what you would like to receive and it works in so many ways.

The law of attraction works hand in hand with karma and the power of manifestation. These ideas can be applied to every aspect of your life, from work to relationships to mental health. I use these concepts as a general guide for my day to day actions and I feel like I owe all of my success and happiness to them. I’m sure you all know how karma works but if you aren’t familiar with conscious manifestation, it is the basic idea that revolves around intention and focus. I will break down a scenario from each aspect of life and show you exactly how these concepts can guide the outcome of your life.

Manifesting your goals through the Law of Attraction isn’t some streamline, step by step process but there are some guidelines that can help you understand how to consciously utilize them. First of all, you must set goals. Without goals, there is no clear direction or path to be taken on and your life may feel meaningless or stagnant. Goals don’t have to be elaborate or clear either, they can be as simple as knowing that you want to be happier and more relaxed in your life. They can also be career goals that shape your day to day activities, health goals, goals to strengthen and improve relationships (whether that is with partners, friends, family), anything you feel like you need to improve on.

Once you’ve established your goals, it is important to realize what steps needs to be done in order to reach those goals. If the steps seem unachievable, break them down into even smaller steps because there will be milestones that have to be reached within your goals as well. Remember that this is all a lifestyle and eventually these things will become a subconscious part of your day. At this point, your fate is in your hands. If you constantly imagine yourself with these achievements someday, you are manifesting them into reality. If you work hard to reach every step of the journey, you are using the Law of Attraction to bring you the reward you deserve. And lastly, if you are good to people and the world around you while you are working to achieve your goals, karma will ensure that your life is blissful and smooth.

Now I have to reiterate, living life with this mentality will absolutely make you a more productive and happy person but there are still going to be constant bumps and uncontrolled factors. This is where karma plays a huge role. If you learn to handle misfortunes and hardships with an open mind and positive attitude, you are bound to come out on the other side enriched and stronger from the experience rather than depleted and discouraged. Not only that, but handling hard times with positivity will bring more good fortune and ease to your future.

I remember being young and literally manifesting a future for myself. I dreamt so often of being far away from my rural hometown, being comfortable and confident in my own skin, living in a clean and aesthetically pleasing environment, being surrounded by loving and real relationships, and succeeding in some type of fashion career where I can truly express myself. These were the things that I would constantly think about and envision and as soon as I could put action into making them a reality, I did. Even the simplest goals seemed really unachievable given that I was stuck in a small, close minded environment, I didn’t have a ton of money or opportunity, and there was no “easy way” to get there. But I figured out exactly what it would take and look at my life now. I live in a beautiful, upscale town in South Florida, I am physically the healthiest I have ever been and I am confident in my own skin, I have a gorgeous apartment that I can’t help but keep clean and looking pretty (listen ya’ll, I used to be a MESS and I never thought this could happen), I have incredible friendships that feel like family to me, I have a Bachelor’s Degree, and of course, I have Local Honey which is beyond anything I thought I could’ve achieved at only 20 years old. If someone would’ve told 14-year-old Jolene that this would be her life in six years, I think she would just cry.

As you can see, I have used these concepts to shape my life and I am living proof that it works. I feel so grateful for every single thing in my life; knowing that I envisioned it, worked for it, and made it happen by myself. There is no excuse for not reaching your goals, and I truly hope that you all feel empowered enough to achieve anything you set your mind to.

Now go manifest your dreams, honey. I believe in you. <3

My Ultimate Guide to the Best Beauty Products

Happy Friday, Honeys! <3

Today’s post is all about my makeup favorites from face to eyes to lips. I work at a beauty store currently and I’ve been watching beauty gurus on YouTube religiously for like 6 years now, so I think I know a thing or two. I curated a mix of my favorites from both the drugstore as well as high end brands but I’d like to note that I am a firm believer that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on makeup for quality or to feel good. We love a money saving queen!!! I have a ton of products to talk about so let me jump right in, starting with face products.

Foundation

Maybelline Superstay ($9.99): This foundation is relatively new but I used the Maybelline Better Skin foundation which they recently discontinued and replaced with this one so I feel comfortable calling it a favorite. It blew my mind the first few times I used it. It is seriously full coverage and it DOES NOT budge or get oily literally all day!

Unknown.jpeg

Lancome Teint Idole ($47): This foundation is very similar in coverage and wear time to the Superstay. I’ve never gotten as many compliments on my skin as I do when wearing this foundation.

Unknown-1.jpeg

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation ($39): This is my go to foundation for lighter coverage days or days when I feel like my skin needs some help because their formula features acne fighting ingredients and a lot of moisture.

Unknown.jpeg

Concealer

Maybelline Better Skin ($8.99): I like this concealer so much because it blends into my skin seamlessly but offers high coverage for how creamy it is.

Unknown-1.jpeg

MAC Cosmetics Studio Finish ($22): I ran out of this concealer a while ago and I don’t know why I haven’t repurchased it yet because it is so high coverage without looking cakey, it’s perfect for days when you wanna skip foundation and just spot conceal with some powder.

Powder

Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder ($5.99): This powder is so inexpensive and lasted me over A YEAR!! It doesn’t cling to your foundation or get patchy and it is great for stopping oils.

Unknown-2.jpeg

Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder ($5.99): This is different than the Coty powder because it is colored and adds a little coverage to your foundation routine. It is very finely milled and leaves a flawless finish without getting patchy or oily throughout the day.

Unknown-3.jpeg

Bronzer

Wet N’ Wild Megaglo Contour Palette in shade Medium ($3.89): This bronzer is the perfect shade of matte brown that blends seamlessly and won’t break the bank.

Unknown-4.jpeg

Benefit Hoola ($29): This is another great matte shade but this one is more cool toned which works better for some skin tones. A cult favorite and worth the lil splurge!

Unknown-5.jpeg

Highlight

Becca Champagne Pop ($38): Becca takes the cake for best highlighter formula by far and this shade (in collaboration with Youtuber Jaclyn Hill), is beyond gorgeous.

Unknown-6.jpeg

Maybelline Master Chrome in Molten Gold ($9.99): This highlighter is such a dazzling shade and it provides a glowy look on the skin without any chunky glitter.

Unknown-7.jpeg

Eyebrows

Elf Eyebrow Pencil ($2): I’ve probably bought at least 10 of these pencils by now… They are quick and easy to apply, natural looking, and come in my perfect shade. For $2 this is such a holy grail product.

Unknown-8.jpeg

Eyeshadow

Tartelette Palettes in Toasted and In Bloom ($46 each): Tarte has by far the best eyeshadow palettes in my opinion. The colors are extremely pigmented and blendable and each palette has diverse enough color selection to help you create so many looks. Not to mention all the warm colors in the Toasted palette are to die for!!!

Unknown-9.jpegUnknown-10.jpeg

Eye Liner

Elf Expert Liquid Eyeliner ($2): I’m pretty sure I haven’t bought a different eyeliner since I started using this one about 4 years ago… It is so easy to apply and liquid eyeliner is not my forte so I’m a big fan.

Unknown-11.jpeg

Mascara

L’Oreal Lash Paradise ($7.99): This is literally an exact dupe for the Too Faced better than sex mascara which I love, but why not buy the version that’s $12 cheaper? It is so volumizing without getting clumpy, I love it.

Unknown-12.jpeg

Lancome Hypnose ($27): This mascara is great for lengthening and separating! Lashes for daaaays.

shopping-1.jpeg

Lips

Fenty Beauty Universal Lip Luminizer ($18): This is my perfect lip gloss and Rihanna is a queen so I have no problem dropping a little extra cash to support my girl! If you see me around with shinin’ lips, it’s probably Fenty.

Unknown-13.jpeg

Setting Spray

Urban Decay All Nighter ($32): This setting spray really is worth the hype. It prevents my makeup from looking cakey and helps with oiliness throughout the day as well.

shopping-2.jpeg

Finally, that’s a wrap! I hope you all enjoyed reading about my personal favorite makeup products and I would love to hear what you think if you try any of them! Don’t forget that you’re beautiful without makeup and you should never feel ashamed for beating that face everyday either!!! Glam or natural, you’re all queens <3

May Music Favorites

Happy Friday, Honey’s!

One of my favorite parts about Friday’s are New Music Friday on Spotify. I look forward to seeing what albums or singles dropped and what songs I can add to my playlists. As a quick overview, I listen to mainly rap/hip-hop as well as alternative music but today’s post will focus on my current rap favorites. I will walk you through some of my most-listened to albums, artists, and songs for the month. Enjoy!

TOP 5 ALBUMS FOR MAY:

  1. Playboi Carti- Die Lit. This album dropped 5/11 while I was in Colorado and now I think it’ll be one of my favorites for a while. The ad-libs are insane and his features (Lil Uzi, Bryson Tiller, Nicki Minaj) cannot be topped.
    • Top 3 Songs: Shoota, Long Time – Intro, Fell in Luv
  2. Preme- Light Of Day. This album dropped 5/4 and it is extremely underrated. It features Lil Wayne, Ty Dolls $ign,  PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Post Malone. 10/10 would recommend.
    • Top 3 Songs: Hot Boy, Can’t Hang, Callin’
  3. J. Cole- KOD. This album dropped at the end of April but I think it had a dope message and some of the songs were stuck on repeat for quite some time!
    • Top 3 Songs: 1985, ATM, Kevin’s Heart
  4. Nav- RECKLESS. Dropping on 5/18, this is album was exactly what I expected. I have to admit, it was a bit underwhelming but Nav has a way of sticking to one specific style and keeping people listening anyways.
    • Top 3 Songs: Champion, EAT, Wanted You
  5. A$AP Rocky– Testing. This album dropped last night, 5/25. Maybe this is cheating but I’ve been bumping the singles off this album for months and I definitely stayed up until it dropped at 12:00 to listen to it.
    • Top 3 Songs: Praise The Lord (Da Shine), Gunz N Butter, Kids Turned Out Fine

Now that you know what albums you’ve gotta start bumping, let me introduce you to my current playlist. I absolutely love creating playlists and making them really personal to my music taste.

Some of my favorite songs off the playlist are:

  1. Pull up with the Gang- 55Bagz ft. Smooky MarGielaa. This song is so catchy and I love basically anything by 55Bagz. Another underrated artist for sure.
  2. Anita- Smino. I absolutely love this song and Smino in general. He is a very distinct taste that some people don’t get down to, but for chill vibes, definitely try him out.
  3. The Goddess- Flatbush Zombies ft. Dave B. I CANNOT STOP LISTENING TO THIS SONG. I love the lyrics, the tempo, everything about it. Please give it a listen.
  4. Shoota- Playboi Carti ft. Lil Uzi Vert. Okay, this is a dream team for me and this song did not disappoint. It gets me so hype even the 16th time I’ve played it that day.
  5. Can’t Hang- Preme ft. PARTYNEXTDOOR. As I said before, I can get down to the entire Preme album, but thing song is just too damn catchy.

That wraps up this post, but if you want to see more of my music or what I’m listening to, my Spotify account is Jolene Smith, feel free to follow! 🙂
